2010 Is Not The Most Glorious Year for Hollywood Movie Industry

2010 is not the most glorious year for Hollywood movie industry. According to Hollywood.com (via The Associated Press), this year's domestic box office revenues will not hit last year's record of $10.6 billion. By the end of this year, it is estimated that total movie-ticket sales will only reach $10.556 billion.

The modest decline of annual box office revenues is in line with the 5.36% decrease of total attendance from last year. The number will mark the biggest percentage drop year over year since 2005. It will also be the second-lowest attended year of the decade.

When "Avatar", which was released in late 2009, made box office history with $750 million haul from domestic ticket sales, it seemed 2010 might set a new record. However, this summer's haul did not help as box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian says, "By the end of the summer it was the lowest-attended summer in over a decade."

"Then I thought, maybe we can make it up in the holiday season, with 'Tron (Legacy)', 'Harry Potter (and the Deathly Hallows: Part I)', 'Tangled' and some other big movies on the way," he additionally shares. "But I didn't know if there would be enough juice in the box office to make up for the loss of the summer, and it just didn't happen."

Fortunately, this year's box office revenues still crosses $10 billion mark which is only the second time in history. And 2010 highest grossing movie "Toy Story 3", which made nearly $415 million, contributes to this. Dergarabedian claims, "Without that, we'd be looking at revenues that may not even have surpassed $10 billion."

As for the coming year, "The Hangover 2", "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger" are expected to increase the annual box office.

The life of troubled actress Lindsay Lohan has inspired the plot of a new comedy movie starring Joan Collins and Lydia Hearst-Shaw. "Dogs in Pocketbooks" is based on the "Mean Girls" star's colorful past, which has seen her in and out of jail and rehab over the last few years.

Socialite-turned-actress Hearst will take on the lead role of a young star making her way in Hollywood, while Collins will play a high-powered agent in the picture, which begins filming in February 2011. Collins tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "The script is a hoot - a satire on the crazed hysteria surrounding showbiz celebrities. I'm playing an aggressive, sexy, powerful woman. For a change."

Screenwriter Charles Casillo adds, "Lydia will play a bratty movie goddess in and out of rehab, in trouble with the law, and hounded by greedy agents, predatory paparazzi, off-the-wall stalkers and crazed media - a role obviously based on Lindsay Lohan. I spent a lot of time casting for the right actress for this screwball comedy, but Lydia is perfect... We looked at a lot of actresses for this role, and I was really knocked out."

"(The movie) is in no way mean-spirited towards Lindsay. It's the kind of thing she has spoofed about herself in the past. It's more of a satire about the crazy people around her and the situations they generate. It satirises the obsession with modern celebrity."

A new clip of "Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2" has come out, teasing another adventure of Papi and Chloe. Starting with hilarious scenes of the puppy family living in the Beverly Hills neighborhood, the clip proceeds to explain how their new adventure begins.

From the creators of 2008 "Beverly Hills Chihuahua", everybody's favorite talking Chihuahuas are back in a comedy that's a pack of outrageous fun for the whole family. Puppy mayhem turns the lives of newlywed Chihuahua parents, Papi and Chloe, upside down when their playful puppies present one challenge after another.

But, when their human owners find themselves in trouble, the tiny pups will stop at nothing to save them-because in good times and hard times, the family always sticks together. Papi, Chloe and the puppies embark on a heroic adventure, proving once again that big heroes come in small packages.

The movie will be released on DVD on February 1, 2011.

The first look at the three musketeers in Paul W.S. Anderson-directed movie has just been unveiled. Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson and Luke Evans are seen walking side by side along with "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" actor Logan Lerman.

Macfadyen plays Athos, Stevenson tackles Porthos, and Evans stars as Aramis. Lerman plays D'Artagnan who leaves home to become a member of the fighting force of the French king's royal household. Along the way, he makes friends with three of the force's best and most disgraced members, whose creed of friendship is "All for one and one for all!"

The other actors tapped for "The Three Musketeers" are Christoph Waltz, Juno Temple, Milla Jovovich and Orlando Bloom. Scripted by Andrew Davies, this action adventure flick is listed for U.S. release on October 14, 2011.
