Peter Jackson Threatens to Move 'Hobbit' Production to Europe

Peter Jackson Threatens to Move 'Hobbit' Production to Europe
Peter Jackson

Peter Jackson has shown great confidence despite the boycott launched by international labor unions to the production of "". After SAG, AFTRA and several international unions issued an alert to their members not to work on the film, the moviemaker has released a statement which mentions his belief that they are not doing anything wrong.

"It sure feels like we are being attacked simply because we are a big fat juicy target -- not for any wrong doing," he claims, before adding "To put it another way, opportunists exploiting our film for their own political gain."

Striking back, Jackson threatens that "The Hobbit" production could be moved to Europe. "Because the 'demands' of MEAA cannot be agreed to, or even considered - by law - and therefore the only options that remain involve closing the 'Hobbit' down, or more likely shifting the production to Europe. It could so easily happen," he states.

The producer also promises that he will treat those who work for "The Hobbit" fairly, explaining "There will always be differing opinions when it comes down to work and conditions, but I have always attempted to treat my actors and crew with fairness and respect. We have created a very favourable profit sharing pool for the non-Union actors on 'The Hobbit' - and now the Union is targeting us, despite the fact that we have always respected SAG conditions and residuals."

The full statement released by Peter Jackson on Sunday, September 26 can be seen on .

Screen Actors Guild issued "Member Alert" on Friday, September 24. "The makers of feature film 'The Hobbit' - to be shot in New Zealand next year - have refused to engage performers on union-negotiated agreements. Members of Canadian Actors Equity, US Actors Equity, the Screen Actors Guild, UK Actors Equity, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (Australia) and the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists are advised not to accept work on this non-union production," they claimed.

"The Hobbit" is not officially greenlighted but it is believed that production will be kicked off in early 2011 while New Line parent Warner Bros. and the financially troubled MGM work out an arrangement to finance and distribute the pictures. Casting for this "Lord of the Rings" prequel is also underway.

The upcoming adventure movie, which has yet to get new director to replace Guillermo del Toro, will be split into two parts. The first film is expected to arrive in December 2012, while "" may come out a year later.

New Members Add to 'Breaking Dawn'for the Covens and Nomads

New Members Add to 'Breaking Dawn'for the Covens and Nomads
'Breaking Dawn' Adds Cast for the Covens and Nomads

The cast line-up of "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn" has grown longer with a bunch of new members. Summit Entertainment has announced that they cast these actors to portray the The Amazon Coven, The Egyptian Coven, The Irish Coven, The Romanian Coven, The American Nomads, and The European Nomads.

The Amazon Coven will consist of Tracey Heggins' Senna and Judi Shekoni's Zafrina. They are among the oldest vampires in the world and descendants of an ancient Amazonian tribe that has lived outside of civilization for centuries and therefore they make no attempt to keep up a human facade. Despite drinking human blood, the Amazons are long-time allies of Carlisle.

Joining who is cast as the member of The Egyptian Coven, Benjamin, are Omar Metwally, Andrea Gabriel and Angela Sarafyan. They, in respective order, will portray Amun, Kebi amd Tia. Amun is the leader of The Egyptian Coven and he is extremely protective of his family and fearful of Aro. While this clan is not technically a biological family, they could pass for one.

The Irish Coven has Marlane Barnes' Maggie, Lisa Howard's Siobhan and Patrick Brennan's Liam. This relatively young group is not vegetarian but they are civilized. Though The Irish Coven was founded by Siobhan and Liam, Maggie's talent has made her an important element of it.

On The Romanian Coven, there are Noel Fisher's Vladimir and Guri Weinberg's Stefan. This clan is one of the oldest covens in the world and they were the ruling vampire family until they were unseated by the Volturi. For this reason, the Romanians harbor a centuries-old resentment of The Italian Coven.

Meanwhile, The American Nomads comprise of 's Garrett, Toni Trucks' Mary, Bill Tangradi's Randall, Erik Odom's Peter and Valorie Curry's Charlotte. Garrett, who leads this clan, has chosen to live a nomadic existence, wandering the world on his own. Though not a vegetarian, Garrett is among Carlisle's closest and oldest friends. Mary, Randall, Peter and Charlotte are also nomadic vampires.

Last but not least, Joe Anderson is cast as Alistair from The European Nomads. He is a nomadic vampire from England who doesn't trust authority figures. Although he counts Carlisle as his closest acquaintance, he doesn't visit more than once a century.

Previously, The Denali Coven has been cast with playing Irina, starring as Tanya, Casey LaBow portraying Kate, Mia Maestro taking the role of Carmen and Christian Camargo portraying Eleazar. Another cast member in "Breaking Dawn" is Mackenzie Foy who is chosen to portray Edward Cullen and Bella Swan's daughter, Renesmee.

Serving as the last installment of "" film series, "Breaking Dawn" will be split into two parts: "" which is due November 18, 2011 and "" which will come out a year later on November 16, 2012. Bill Condon has been tapped to direct both movies.

Main original cast like , and are set to reprise their roles when the cameras start rolling for "Breaking Dawn" this November.
